I was recently asked by a student, “How can I flourish in my accomplishments?” Too often we forget or make light of our accomplishments. Even people who have accomplished a lot in their lives often fail to give themselves credit for the goals they reach or the good things they do. “Oh that,” they say, “that wasn’t much.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In actuality, recognizing our accomplishments in a realistic way gives us a sense of quiet confidence and of knowing who we are. This confidence and knowledge will serve us well in all areas of our lives. We regularly celebrate, and make a big deal out of birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and such events that mark our lives. Celebrating our accomplishments, even in small ways, paves the way for achieving future goals. It helps us focus on the good things we do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the distance between where we are and where we want to be, especially if our goals are large and far-reaching. It’s also easy to be overwhelmed by the many bad things in the world. Paying attention to what we have achieved and focusing on the many acts of kindness and good that we do everyday, sometimes without even thinking, keeps our vision clear. We can accomplish our goals. We do many good things every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can you flourish in your accomplishments? Share them with others. Acknowledge them yourself. Ask others if they have seen you doing a good deed, or something kind for another person. Recall your recent achievements in school. Did you get a good grade? Have you done well on a test? Are you keeping up on your homework?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking a moment each day to acknowledge these accomplishments contributes to our sense of integrity. Keeping the good things we do before us helps us to be honest about the positive contribution we can and do make to our workplace, our family, our school and our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Think about it for a moment. What did you do today that you felt good about? Remember the small stuff, like picking up a piece of litter, helping someone without being asked, as well as the big stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The more you take time to think about and recall your accomplishments, the more of them you will find yourself doing. What gets noticed, easily improves, so make sure to take note. Ask your family and friends to help you take notice of your accomplishments. And see yourself flourish. Good luck, friends!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
